DON'T BE KOI, NOW

Bill said to hurry up and paint those fish - he said it twice so he must be on the edge of his seat, waiting for them to arrive - so...

Here is the start of them. I'm not sure how I'm going to make them look like they are IN the water with parts under the water. I may just run a thin wash of cobalt blue over everything after I get it all done? Hmmm...

I won't get them done before I drive over to meet Deb and we go up to Dayton for the workshop (looking forward to meeting Mary Sonya there, too!).

You'll just have to be patient, now, Bill - I know it's hard for you but be good until I return.

I did finish the Lemons and Shadows painting. It just needed a bit of shaping on the lemons and done!

The batik look on the seaweed seems to have worked really well - what a beautiful blend of colors. If you are doing so well before the workshop, what will you be producing after the workshop...Move over, Nick:-)

The lemon painting is also a success. You are on such a roll.
Have a great time at the workshop, you lucky lady. I will think of you as I go to work on Monday:-)

The lemon painting looks great, Rhonda! A very different place to see a bowl of lemons. I love it.

As for the koi looking like they're underwater - don't sweat it. If you look back at the dvd, Nick's look like that too until later on when he adds shading and more paint over them. I remember being amazed at how his few additions made those fish sink right into the water. In a good way, of course. lol. Great job.

Have loads of fun at your workshop.

Christiane, Nick says he'll take a day off and let me lead that day :) hee hee As if that would ever happen!!! It's going to be fun and a great learning experience. I've never heard a bad thing about Nick and his teaching from anyone who has taken a workshop from him so I'm looking forward to it - and feel like I already know him.
Deb, so glad you are back with us and posting :) I know we'll catch up soon! I know what you mean about the koi - I need to do the process and not rush and ruin it.
Thanks, Laura :) I was pleased with the way they turned out.
Vicki, thanks! I liked the lemon painting, too and may do it again looser next time.

Nice color Rhonda, especially the yellows. What yellow is that?

Thanks, Cathy. The lemons are done in Azo Yellow (a very lemony yellow) and then New Gamboge with a touch of Raw Sienna for the shadowed areas.

Have a ball Rhonda and say hi to Deb too. I am in St. George Island, FL on the way north and sketching lighthouses.

As soon as my back's turned you get even more busy and creative. The lemons are fabulous and I'm in awe of those fish - you have such a gift.
I'm not sure how you'd achieve the under-wateriness. Maybe that blue glaze would work - perhaps if you did watery dappled streaks? Scary to try it though!

Hey, Ginny! Sorry I didn't get your post until I was on the road - it was fabulous (Deb and Sharon are great and fun and I laughed more than I've laughed in ages), and the workshop - well, I'll be posting about that so check back later!
Gillian, Hi! Yes, I'm getting busy for now but things will settle down soon - had a great time - will post about it. I know what to do with the koi now as Nick did a demo and showed something I hadn't seen on the DVD.
Pam, Thanks!! Check back for posting about the workshop when I catch up...
