BATIK LOOK BUT...

I started this by putting the first bright colors on the leaves/seaweed and then waiting a while (not sure how long - I really need to time this and write down how long it takes)...and spritzing them off (leaving just the paint that dried and removing the paint that was not set).

So I finally got the look - but removed a lot of the paint. No worries...

You just reapply paint, going a bit darker and duller in color to tone down what is left of that bright green - ouch!

Unfortunately, it still looks too

GREEN

for my taste (the photo is NOT that bright lemon-lime green but is warmer than this looks BUT still pretty darned green).
Oh, well, not going to panic (yet), but will remove the masking fluid on the koi and begin on them before deciding what to do with the leaves/seaweed.
No one said this was going to be easy...right? Don't give up on me yet...I think it can be saved...maybe...I hope...

I have this dvd and have watched it but admire you for actually giving it a go. My excuse is that I haven't bought the fluid acrylics yet - lol. Sounds like you are turning it into an exercise routine also from your previous post. I am enjoying your progress.

I am really enjoying watching your progress with this painting/DVD. I am certainly not giving up on you! Since this is acrylic, you can certainly add more color on top of the green that you don't like and practice the batik some more just to let some of that green show...Probably much easier said than done though:-)

Vicki, it's just a matter of doing it! Easier said than done - I did have to wait to get fluid acrylics, too, but you can try it with watercolors (you won't get the batik look but you can get lots of texture).
Thanks, Christiane :) Yes, I know you can continue to work the acrylics without worrying too much about it right now. But that green sure looks radioactive right now!

looks like everything is working to me, Rhonda. I should mention that I first stumbled over that technique with regular watercolor, so it works with both - just have to adjust drying time and your touch with the bottle (the spray bottle, not the whisky one!). You're so good with this, I'm thinking to take a day off next week and have you fill in - OK? Thanks very much for the blog posts and publicity, and see you soon!

Thanks, Rhonda (Ad in Art) - I love running into another Rhonda (I don't find many around). I like your artwork and will check in again at your blog.
Nick, you are too kind - I'm fighting this a bit but trying to just go with the flow of the paint - can't wait for Monday!!!

So what if it's too green? Ok, I know you like it to be more blue than green BUT this gives you room for experimentation, right?
Have loads of fun next week!

Teresa, you know me and my aversion to green! ha ha I think if someone else had painted this, I would like it this color - so I'm going with it. Time to start the koi today!
