THINKING ABOUT SPANISH MOSS

Whenever I travel into the south...South Carolina, Louisiana, Florida...that far south...I start thinking about Spanish Moss. There is something about Spanish Moss draping down from live oak trees. Maybe that was what was in my mind when I started this painting. That, and the thoughts of old cemeteries...ancient and moldy headstones. And, of course, a crow.

Here's a few steps on the way to a finish.

Makes me think of Savannah or N'Awlins! And now I'm seeing crows everywhere - is it because you talk about them or are there more in the area; never noticed them before! Also like the gold crow painting from the earlier post!

Well, it's a big mess now, Deb, but maybe I can fix it :) You'll see later... I hear them all the time now but don't see them any more than ever...I once saw three in a neighbor's yard this past winter but they don't usually come close.

Thanks, Pam. I envy you...you get to see Spanish Moss and live oaks all the time!! Right now this is a mess I may not recover but I'll try. Going to let it sit a while.

Good luck on the Spanish Moss, Rhonda! If you remember, a few years ago I tried three paintings to try to get the cemetery moss-over-the-headstones correct! It should be easier to get that softly draping look accomplished, but it isn't! If you keep that soft look that you have going now, and barely suggest the texture of the moss, I think you will have it.

Thanks, Sandy, but you are giving me too much credit - wait until you see the next step!! UGH!
Susan, it should be easy, but it isn't - that's the truth. I have hit a set-back when I removed the misket and it just doesn't look right but I think I can save it...I think I can...I think I can...I think I can!
