THE GLASS BOWL

Thanks go to artist, Susan Roper, for her demo she shared with all the members of WatercolorWorkshop. I used my sepia and it's interesting to see how many glass bowls have been done - and how different they all look. Some look light and airy and some heavy and dense. I think mine is somewhere in between. And the photo looks better than the real painting but it is pretty accurate as far as color and values go. Anyway, it's finished and time to move on to something else...

Here is the original photo, taken by Vicki Greene. Vicki was generous with her photo and let us all use this as a reference for the monthly project (painting in monotone, especially sepia).

You done good, Rhonda! I like the precision of your bowl, as well as the sparkle. I think adding those glints of light on the lower right corner of the painting, as well as the even fainter abstract ones, does add a nice touch to this painting. On some of my bowls I did that, one I didn't, and I think it adds some sparkle.

One interesting thing I am seeing, the DS sepia does not granulate as well as some of the others I have seen with both my students and online. Personally, I prefer the softer, granulated look of the AJ sepia, but then am not sure after seeing the precision lines and smoother background of yours. Hmmmm.

Rhonda, well done! I love the cast shadows and the way the glass sparkles.

Hi Rhonda, this bowl is amazing. I've always marveled at artists ability to capture crystal. You've done a fabulous job.

I like how you've taken care to put in the lights to the lower right of the bowl, counter-balancing the darks to the left. A tricky subject handled with your usual flair!

Hey, Susan, thanks! It was an easy-to-follow demo you gave us and I saw the glints, so I painted them (or really lifted them). Not much granulation in this - just a smooth wash.
Thanks, Ann, Cathy, Barb, Carol and Gillian, for your wonderful supportive comments :)
And thanks, Vicki, for sharing the photo! It does take some patience to do this one, doesn't it?
