CAROLINA CROWS - FINISHED

Yesterday I was able to paint just long enough, in fits and starts, to finish up some parts of the Carolina Crows. I'm not happy with the puddles - they don't look like puddles but look rounded, to me. I need to set them down into the beach somehow - I kept putting in darker colors and then lifting them out, over and over so that's not the answer! ha ha

Here's a closeup of the crows...

And next I'll need to tweek (is that tweek or tweak?) the glass bowl so I can call it finished.

And, yes, I have something else in mind for the next painting. You'll have to wait and see...

Maybe I'm wrong but I'd say that you're overthinking those puddles, they look good to me, I think I'm not getting what you mean about they looking round, I can't see the problem you're talking about Rhon, I think they read as puddles, they add interest to the design, brings the background into the lower part of the painting unifying the whole thing and help the eyeflow.
The crows closeup look terrific, really really good!

Your crows are wonderful! So realistic.

Teresa, me, overthink something??!? ha ha You could be right. What I mean is: the water looks rounded in the middle, not dipped down like water would be...or maybe I am just seeing it wrong? Thanks for telling me you think it reads right!
Jane, thank you! Glad you are enjoying them :)

Love those crows in close up!
Just catching up on blogs - have been under the weather, too, for the past couple days and will probably take me a few more to get back to "normal". Hope your back is better by now.

Hey, Deb, hope you are better and that it's nothing serious! Sit and watch the birds - they are frantic all over, making nests, mating, getting ready for lots of little birds to come :) Glad you like the crows!
Robin Maria - so glad you stopped by. I LOVE your crows, too!!

Love the crows Rhonda. The colours are beautiful.

The puddles do read as water, but they might meet the image in your head with a few additional dark shadows in them perhaps?

I think this is stunning, Rhonda.

Hope your back feels better today - I can empathise with that - back problems are the pits. x

What a prolific painter you are Rhonda. Planning the next already. I feel a couple of days break is quite useful to me, so I do some admin or framing or labelling while I have think time. Mind you at present that oil of the workshop in St Nics is still awaiting the next step, so maybe thats what I ought to finish first.

Close up of the crows reveals your lovely soft touch and I would not worry about the puddles. Its the birds we are interested in, so would not want them too dominant anyway.

More terrific crows! Love that background and your puddles look fine to me.

Thanks, Jeanette. I think that is what I was working for but not getting = a bit darker shadow shapes inside the puddles but they are so small...maybe next time! ha ha
Thanks so much, Gillian, Joan and Vicki, for your comments on this - and everything :) Joan, I do have down times when I just read or veg out in front of the tv or just think...but sometimes I do get these images I want to put down and can't wait to start them :)

I really love this crow painting Rhonda - the birds are very lifelike and characterful and the colours just beautiful. I always have trouble with reflections, so don't take my advice, but I wonder if the marks on them were vertical like the background, instead of horizontal, they might look flatter - like if you cut the shape of the puddles out and inserted a section from the middle of the background...? Just a thought!

Really like these two crows! Glad you included the closeup. And I like the background too.

Thanks, Cathy! I was looking out at the pool today (it still has the winter cover on and some water pooled on top of that) and saw the reflection of the trees in it - that would work and it's what you were suggesting for this.
Thanks, Carol! I like adding closeups so you can really see the detail that doesn't often show in the photo, even if the photo enlarges when you click on it.
