WHEN WIPS GO WRONG

Well, I guess it's not wrong...yet. But I know that green strand is going to be the end of me unless I back off, get in the right mood, and do it right...so time to move on to the others and see if they are more amenable to being shaped by me. I think the green is tooo green right now, too, so it needs some toning down and warming up and...well.....we'll see who wins! I am going to have to get in there with some opaques and do some better shaping of the orange, too. The blue one turned out well and I'm wondering how I even did that? Should have written something down!

And needing a break, I began something that was walking around in my head for a while and just came out. Started with a drawing on tracing paper and then traced that onto the half sheet Fabriano Artistico 140# cold press. And started on the crows.

Going to be playing with some design elements around the birds and also playing with lots of colors in the darks.

I'm calling it "And Your Point Is...?" Hope you return to see where this one has flown later!

Got some bad news: My Life Drawing Class didn't make it - not enough for the minimum class number. Sad :( I was so looking forward to that. Here I am, in an area where this is offered and I hear others out there wishing for this opportunity and not having it...too bad we can't all get together on this. I'm hoping it returns in the spring. Until then, I should devote one day a week to life drawing, if I can, just so I can keep my hand in. (Oh, well, more money for Starbucks when I get my refund!)

LOVE "And Your Point Is." Can't wait to see it finished.

Keep going on the WIP. It's just not done percolating yet!

Rhonda, I am loving everything about this WIP. Colors, composition, rendering - all great so far. Just keep doing what you are doing!

Thanks, Elizabeth. I'm liking that but not sure where those crows are leading me!
Kathy, thanks, I always appreciate you taking the time to stop by and comment :)
I just now - yep, just now! - figured out that I can go in and get more defined work on this using watercolor pencils!! What a doob I am sometimes...
Now I don't feel so up in the air over this one, not wanting to face all that detail work with a small brush.

Hey Rhonda,

When you get your refund and head out to starbucks take along a sketch pad and some pencils/pens and do your life drawings and quick sketches of the people passing by just keep your back to a wall so no one can look over your shoulder. Whats your point looks cool like to see what design elements you end up with.

Sincerely
Paul

Rhonda, your blue skein is perfect and the green is coming along very well. Using watercolor pencils should make the shaping of all those skeins much easier.
As for the crows, I can't wait to see where you will be taking that painting. Great start!

Love those birdies!! Looks like lots of fun was had in the design and painting so far. I'm looking forward to seeing how this develops.

Your WIP looks fine, just not finished yet.

Your wip is looking fine and you are right not to rush it. Really like your birds - the painting is looking great already. Paul had a terrific idea for the life drawing.

Thanks so much, Vicki, Chris and Christiane :) Paul, did you delete your blog? I can't find it anywhere!! I miss seeing your work and hope all is well. (I just got a new Starbucks card for my birthday - whoo hooo!!)

Rhonda,

Yeah, I pulled down the blog for now just spending more time painting and finding out how to get better I've been watching Artworkshop Tv and have been sending my work to different artist to get there feedback on my work its nice because they are giving great advice, and its moving me forward.

So if I can just get myself out of the way I might have something to say or at least a better way of saying it.

I'm still looking on to other blogs like yours Sandy's,Teresa,Nicholas, and others just not posting my current work except for the occassional Wetcanvas post but even those are less and less frequent.

Rhonda thanks for your support, and I will continue to watch your work.

Sincerely
Paul

Thanks, Paul :) Glad to hear you are still painting, working, drawing, and thinking about art and are out there somewhere even if the blog is gone. I'll be waiting for you to return to blogging and sharing (if that's in your plans for the future). This year there have been 3 blogs quit that I viewed a lot and I think it's just going to be a year of changes for a lot of people - I hope you get the best, brightest, most wonderful changes and growth in 2010!!

I wouldn't touch that green yet Rhonda, how about waiting until you have more work done on the red yellow and white? just a thought.

The crows are turning into a really interesting one so far, I like what you're diong with the design, can't wait for the next step, I didn't know anything about that one! :)

Love the wip Rhonda! We have to get you unstuck over those greens. The crows look great, too, but the wip is my favourite.

RH Carpenter said...

Thanks, Deb :) Yes, it's not easy painting greens - for me, anyway, I have a green phobia! ha ha Glad you like it - I may finish it before spring...or maybe not!
