LIFE DRAWING WITHOUT A MODEL

In class yesterday we used the same drawing from the live model we had during the first class. Then we overlaid that with a piece of vellum tracing paper and put down the muscles...as best we could. It was more difficult than doing the skeleton the week before but I was finally making heads and tails of it by the end of the session.

I started using green pastel pencils, but it became too green so I changed to brown, thanks to the suggestion from the teacher who said I was going for the Creature from the Black Lagoon look with the greens :) I still have some work to do on the feet and ankles.
Next week we go back to drawing from a live model.

This is wonderful, I wish I could join you for the class. I like the colors in it too.

This class seems quite tough, but imagine all that you are learning. Fabulous!

I really admire you for taking this class and drawing all of that detail.

Thanks so much, Cathy, Christiane and Vicki for commenting. It was harder than the skeleton and I didn't get some parts finished and had a heck of a time with the calf muscles - looks like she forgot to shave some very hairy legs!!

Very interesting drawing and blog, Rhonda. My experience with life drawing is almost nil. I think it would help my overall drawing skills if I could draw from a live model (locating one in a small town is seemingly impossible), but alas my attempts at drawing the nude have been mainly from photographs. As is the case with your first commenter, I wish we "blog acquaintances" could all get together and paint and draw and talk art.

It would be fun to get us all together but we just have to enjoy the blogger-world as it is - and what a great thing. I do know how lucky I am to be in an area that has a thriving art scene with lots of teachers (if you can find them).

We had live models in college but this exercise in understanding what's beneath the skin is priceless!
Bravo!
