HAPPY SEPTEMBER + KING OF HEARTS 2

Autumn is my favorite time of year. I love the cooler mornings and evenings, being able to leave the windows and doors open during the day and feel the air coming through the house. I love the thought of the colors that will come soon, covering the landscape in scarlet and gold, dark green and orange. It doesn't seem possible that summer is almost, truly over...

I mailed my self-portrait to David for his SP Global Love-In Challenge due this month. Glad you all enjoyed it.

And here is where I'm at with the King of Hearts. Letting it sit a while and looking at it as I walk into the room to see what needs changing. I'm tempted to just crop off the bottom...or maybe it just needs more whites leading into the painting?

I checked back to the earlier King of Hearts post and, wow, you have certainly brought it along. Love the colours you have brought out and the way you have defined his face and hat and the little red heart shape. I 'cropped' the bottom by using the screen scroll but felt he was too 'tight' and enclosed in the resulting square format.

Hi Rhonda, King of hearts is so cool. How about red instead of white at the bottom moving toward the left? Love the texture.

As for fall, I do love it, and I suppose it is time to get back to work, but geez, I really enjoy my solitude and doing as I wish. Oh well I should be glad to be working, and I am, off I go.

Rhonda...I like the bottom colors and textures...what I would like to see are more value shapes and areas overall to carry your eye throughout the painting - when I squint - it is pretty much the same value even though there is a lot of very interesting texture.

thank you for you comments on my blog. I am thinking about doing nests for a bit, to go with the birds, they are fun. I appreciate your taking the time to look at my work and comment!

Joan, my "crop it" comment is due to cowardice - it's easier than working through the problems there! ha ha
Cathy, good idea about the reds running from lower left and through!
Barb, you have keen eyes and you hit it on the head - my major fault is working something right into a bunch of middle values!!! I love darks and whites - in other artists' paintings - but can't seem to "see" them and work them into mind. Perhaps I need to paint more with my glasses off?
Elizabeth, your work is so appealing to me, and I'll be looking forward to your nests :)
