THE QUEEN OF HEARTS + TEXTURED YUPO PLAY

With Sandy's eyes on me, I felt more able to step back and look and wait for this painting to evolve into what I thought it could be. Thanks, Sandy, for your extra eyes, your magic mirror, and your good input always :)

And then I took out a 1/2 sheet of yupo that had been painted on and washed off (since I had actually sealed this, I used alcohol to get off more and leave some texture to begin). So it was all about pulling out the toys to texture this sheet with no mind to what it might be later. And it was fun. Sandy had some great stamps she let me use and that did the trick in several places. I used China Markers (grease pencils), loose charcoal, watercolors in transparent and opaque colors, lots of stamps and things to make texture and got this, which I like.

Here are some close-ups of the textured bits here and there throughout the painting.

Now it's just a matter of bringing out what is already there...seeing it and working it to the surface...wish me luck!

Thanks, Rhonda, for coming over to paint with me. You are delightful and so much fun to be with. Hope the mud came out of your clothes. It was a great day.

We had a great day, Cindi. It ended too soon but Sandy's still healing and wears down quickly - not that I didn't need a nap when I came home, too! ha ha
Sandy, thank you! Mud is just dirt and water - it will wash out fine :) Have a great week.

Me again. Just an impulse - but how about some sort of turquoise in that face somewhere - an eyebrow of sorts or eyelid or shadow or??? It would help move the eye thru the painting more, too. That beautiful turquoise in the dress sems to be asking to be repeated somewhere special.

Oh, this all sounds so great - kindred spirits at play. I liked what you did the first time you changed your Queen, and I like this even more - its become suggestive and mysterious and interesting. It says a lot for not always accepting one's first attempts, and working at it sometimes, if you're not quite satisfied. I love the textures and mini-masterpieces within the yupo painting - makes me want to work on that a bit more!

Thanks so much, Cathy. That more subdued look and muted look was a suggestion from Sandy and it worked so well - I know what I like when I see it but cannot "see" it in my own work at times. Maybe that will come in another year or so?
Sandy - another good idea. I might get it out again tomorrow. Right now I'm resting after a rough night and a bad back - ouch!!!

Oh oh. Get better. No bad backs allowed. Where's Smudge? He should be helping you get better.

Rhonda, I just love this, all of the texture. Are you going to continue or is the painting complete? I would love it either way, and oh the fun.

Cathy, I will work on this more and see what I can pull out of the texture.
Sandy, Smudge doesn't care how I feel as long as I continue to feed him when he meows!!
My back is actually feeling less pain today after sleeping until afternoon (that muscle relaxer must have wiped me out).
