MORE BEFORE + AFTERS

The other paintings I took to class Thursday and worked on.

Self-portrait with Bowler, before (cropped to show less of the white background at the time):

Self-portrait with Bowler, after (this painting is on gessoed watercolor paper so I could work the shape of the face more to get a better shape):

And the American Lotus - pure watercolor this time,
before stages:

And will show the final stage when I make the two changes suggested in class. So stay tuned!

This self portrait looks very hard. How many mirrors do you have to use and how long can you hold that pose?

Bill, the pose it easy, you could fall asleep this way. The trouble is trying to see what you're drawing and painting while holding the post! ha ha (Actually, and honestly: from a photo and then a line drawing from the photo was the easiest and fastest way - not sure I could do a "looking at myself in the mirror" painting yet).

It's obvious that you have a good instructor in Sandy, and good critique from the class. All the paintings are much improved!

Did any ever mention that the self portrait with bowler could almost be a portrait of Michael Jackson?

Rhonda I am really enjoying your before and after shots. Of course, I think the lotus is absolutely wonderful.

Thanks so much, Vicki :)
Kathy, um...thanks...I think!

These paintings are wonderful. The self portrait is quite evocative, something about that hat just speaks to me :-)

Thank you, Mary :) I like that hat, too, although I never wear hats. Maybe I should get a fine hat like the ladies wear at the Kentucky Derby and wear it once a week :)
