HUCKLEBERRY MUSH

Yesterday, I colored my hair. It had been a long time since I'd done this as, once again, I was under the impression that, if I let my natural color grow out for a few months it would finally be all silvery and beautiful - not mottled colors. I could see my husband giving me that look (he thinks you should fight back aging with a power saw and ninja nunchuks as hard as possible). You know the look? When he talks to you he looks at your hair that is pulled back showing off all of mother nature's lovely lightening effects.

So I colored it. I used the same brand and same color I've used several times before. It must have been defective labeling or a mix-up in the bottles because now my hair is dark. Too dark.

The only thing I can think of to do now is try, after about a dozen washings, to get it to fade out - but it's permanent color that is supposed to last 6 weeks.

Or, I could head out to Las Vegas and join the Elvis Presley impersonators. So let's practice, shall we:

Lift that lip

and curl it on one corner

and say...

"Huckleberry Mush."

So if I'm not posting for a while you'll know I'm either in Vegas, baby! or busy washing my hair.)

Oh boy, I do feel for you (been there, done that).
I've noticed that most of the haircolor companies have hotlines that you can call for advice (maybe online, too).
You might try recoloring to adjust, with a much lighter shade than usual-- but check with the experts.

Rhonda, you could always just keep the bowler hat on till it fades a bit - or how about a 'self-portrait as Elvis'? Mother Nature's lovely lightening effects are taking hold of my hair too - I like to think of them as 'blonde';-)

Don't worry. It will fade. However, if you do come out to Vegas, don't settle for a job as an everyday Elvis impersonator. Try to get on as one of the flying Elvi:)

wow we must of been contemplating and then coloring at the same time~~ with the same results...lol is there room for a short elvis in your vegas show?? other wise we can both buy some strong dandruff shampoo.. hear that will take out any thing with a few shampoos... probably and including.. all remaining hair!!

Hmmm...recolor...wear a hat...learn to fly?...shampoo, rinse, repeat, shampoo, rinse, repeat.
All good suggestions, ladies!

A friend of mine once had PURPLE hair - and that was after a salon color - so it could be worse! And it's summer - there are some lovely large floppy summer hats you could wear! It's just hair - it is ever changing - this too shall pass! (voice over: in 6 weeks or less, give or take a few days)

This too dark problem has happened to me too, even though my hairdresser does the coloring. The color sometimes "grabs" more in certain areas than others, like all around the hairline. She solved it by putting some highlights in the dark areas. So each time she colors me now, she mixes a bit lighter shade to go around the hairline. I swear the hair color companies have changed a formula or something but won't admit it!

By now you must be getting used to being a dark haired beauty??? It's a BAD day when our hair is not good. I sure feel for you. Keep repeating "DARK HAIRED BEAUTY."

Head and Shoulders brand has always worked for me and my sister when confronted with this situation.

Love reading your blog - you're so human!

Great amusingly written post. Afraid my coloured hair has re-acted to all this sunshine we don't normally expect in England + the Italian trip - its bleached it so blonde I feel like 'mutton dressed as lamb' at my age!!!
All that advice from your blogger pals Rhonda sounds like too much effort - just be unique girl!!

Ladies, it seems we all have felt the pain of overcolored - or overdark colored hair :) The things we do to try to stay beautiful - or what passes for beautiful in this day and age :)
Thanks for support and glad you enjoyed the post. After several washings, it has faded some so not so dark now and I can go out without a hat or a scarf on and I won't be going to Vegas for the Flying Elvis Review :)
