AMERICAN LOTUS FLOWER + SKETCH

Jerry's photo of an American lotus, almost bloomed out and showing the large middle seedpod. I liked it and it was different...with some good whites and pale colors.

Sketched on a large sheet of newsprint to get the composition/values before starting on this one.
And Deb Ward saw it, so I'm going to use this for my batik painting in her weekend workshop Saturday and Sunday. Hope I get those values right (in batik, it's all about the values...and shapes...and colors...and....ha ha).
(Deb and Joyce came over this morning and we had a blog lesson. I hope Joyce learned enough to create her own blog when she gets time; and hope Deb learned a few things from me that were new to her, too.)
Now I hear those eggs calling me to come paint them - wish me luck and good eyes!

Those are some lovely shapes there - how great to be doing a batik workshop - I loved the ones on Sandy Maudlin's blog.

The batik should be fun - I learned batik from Sandy but this will be with Deb - each person brings something different to the table and I think it will be very fun out in the country (I may even get to see the new grandcalf that was just born :)

Nice interesting angle in this photo! I'm curious to see the resulting painting.

I love the fact you are painting from your husband's photos - it's a great collaboration!

Connie, thanks for stopping by and for your comments. I took a quick peek at your blog and LOVE that banner photo - truly awesome in every sense of the word :) Will have to check back later when I have time to peruse your postings.
Nava, if Jerry had his way I would ONLY paint from his photos :) and I do that often - having a great photographer in the house, you get some good reference photos.

Thank you, Bill. I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and post. I am far behind in catching up again - seems I have the real summertime blahs - but will catch up with your posts soon, I promise!
That goes for everyone.

Hey, Nick. You'll have to wait until Sunday evening - hope I have something worth sharing then.
