Figure Drawing/Life Drawing Class Work

Well, I made it in to class - we weren't closed and I wasn't frozen to the driveway and I didn't have a meeting!!! I did get into a gridlock of traffic on 1-471 but it wasn't too bad by the time I got off the highway and ordered my Starbucks so kept going, slowly, but got there. Actually, I arrived earlier than I ever have - because I left the house earlier than I ever have! There were about 1/2 dozen stalwart students there and the group is so friendly and open and sharing - very cool. We had a new model, a young man with a strong face and lean muscles.

I did 2 versions, the 2nd one working longer on the face and upper body after Carin helped me thin him down a bit (I'd made him too thick).

Good mornin' Rhonda....Glad you could get out and about for the drawing session, cabin fever can be a bad thing to endure! In looking at your figures, I like the head of the first drawing and the body of the second. In the second one, the head appears to be disproportionately (is that a word? It looks funny!)large for the body, and the torso longer than the legs? The muscle anatomy drawing is coming along very well, I think.

Stay warm...Susan

Thanks, Susan :) Yes, I was glad to get out even if the traffic was horrid!
I really think the 2nd one is more accurate - he did have a longish head size and a slender body - but you may be right about the legs being not long enough as I didn't focus on them much, just a rough beginning. I'm going to show it to Carin and see what she thinks next time I'm there - which will be in 2 weeks. I am still trying to break myself of "scribbling" the shapes in.

Dawn, We are lucky to have the Art Academy of Cincinnati here that gives lessons to older adults out of school. Most of the instructors are working artists and this Life Drawing Class is teaching me slowly but surely. Cincinnati has a glut of classes, open sessions, groups, and galleries so always something to get involved with.
