Monday, October 8, 2007 - Jerry's Dragonfly Stage 2

No masking/misketing because it's on gesso and I can lift back to white. Did the limb and the background first. I will leave them more muted and really push the colors on the dragonfly - or make it very detailed - well, that's my thinking right now.

Rhonda, I love this background already....with the texture having all those little white spots it reminds me of a summer evening, busy with all the light-colored insects flying through the air. I like this gesso stuff, I really will have to try it. I have both the jar and the thinner liquid kind...which do you use on paper?

Thanks, Susan :) To get that look you put the paint down and then while it's still damp, you spray it with a sprayer that makes big drops - not a fine mister. Works well. I use Liquitex Acrylic Gesso and it's fairly thin - comes in a 8 fl. oz. bottle.

Thanks Rhonda! I have that kind of gesso as well as the thicker, pasty jar kind. I'm ready to give this a try! First, another Yupo painting, but then I have to try some gessoed paper.
