Monday, August 20, 2007 - Spoons Again

Here is the next stage of the spoons painting. I am darkening everything, and slowly working on getting the felt the spoons are lying on a deeper color with some variety by using a variety of blues and purples and reds.

I also did a little pastel practice. It looks a bit strange because I don't have a lot of variety in the pastel colors - if I was going to do portraits, I'd have to get a portrait set of colors since I'm just working with a few basics that don't work well for skin tones. But I played with darks and lights on pastel paper. I need to work on the collar bones so it looks like she's facing toward us not away but this was more to play with the strokes and blending than anything worth saving.

I am enjoying watching you develop the spoons painting. I like the hints of color you have placed in the bowl of the spoons. It looks like your pastel work is coming along too. Two challenging things at once, the figure and learning a new medium.

Rhonda,

Be careful... be very careful! Don't lose any more of the whites on those spoons! I like this so far, but I do want to see the sparkly effects of those shell spoons in the final painting....Susan

Thanks, Ann. Glad to see you stopping by :)
Susan, don't worry - there is plenty of misket on the bowls and the handles of those spoons still that you can't see because it's a blue-grey color :)
